Cusco is four hours away by train; many guests find it more convenient to travel through the scenic Sacred Valley with a driver to Ollantaytambo, and continue by train for one and a half hours.

Buses to the Machu Picchu citadel leave Aguas Calientes, beginning before dawn, and returning until 5:30 pm. It is also possible to walk the Inca Trail on a one-day trip, exploring the archeological remains and returning by bus.
