  • INKATERRA CANOPY WALKWAY

    Winner of the PURE Award in the ‘High Emotion/Low Impact’ category, the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway is a 1129ft system of 2 observation towers, 8 platforms and 7 hanging bridges 100ft above the ground. Designed to perform scientific research on ecosystems inhabiting the rainforest canopy, this attraction contributes to birdwatching and other eco-friendly activities.

  • RIVER ISLAND

    A 20-minute boat ride will lead you to the river island near the Amazon Field Station byInkaterra, a large sandbank at the shores of the Madre de Dios River. Walk across the island to explore the floodplain that provides the island an ecosystem with a great diversity of birds such as the Amazonian umbrellabird (Cephalopterus ornatus), one of the most sought after species by birdwatchers.

  • WETLANDS

    Take a walk along the bridge system in the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve to explore the wetland ecosystem. Enjoy 40-minute walk to reach the flooded area, characterized by the presence of Aguaje palm trees (Mauritia flexuosa) and home to a unique diversity of fauna, including birds, ants and amphibians.

  • GAMITANA

    Visit the Gamitana Model Farm. Take a 20-minute boat ride towards Gamitana Creek, followed by a 1.5-hour walk through the model farm. Learn about the importance of farming as one of the primary economic activities in Madre de Dios. Depending on the season, you will have the chance to taste some fruits and crops. Discover the community projects of Inkaterra Asociación.

  • DYEING PLANTS

    Explore the different ways Amazonian communities utilize dyeing plants. A short 5-minute walk will take you to the Bio-Orchard, where you will discover species like Sanipanga (Picramnia sp.) and Huito (Genipa americana), which produces a blue pigment. Learn about their medicinal and nutritional properties before having the chance to create artwork with their dyes at the Ecocenter. You can also design a temporary tatoo, which will remain on your skin for a few days. To wrap up, visit the Restaurant Lounge and try edible dyes like turmeric (Curcuma longa)
