Newsletter December 2016

Inkaterra and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology celebrate this holiday season with new bird cams live streaming from Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.

All About Birds, Cornell University’s online guide to bird watching with 20 million unique viewers, launched its first broadcast to view in real time nesting green-and-white hummingbirds (Amazilia viridicauda), a relatively unknown species endemic to the Eastern slope of the Peruvian Andes.

Found by Inkaterra Explorer Guides during incubation, the nest became home to a female caring for two chicks. For about two weeks, the audience was able to enjoy how baby birds matured in their open cup nest until fledging on New Year’s Day (click here to see video). In 20 days, there was 150k views from 170 countries and 3.4 million minutes watched – about six years!

Stay tuned for further live streaming to discover Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel’s unique bird diversity, with 214 species registered in hotel grounds.

TATLER MAGAZINE FEATURES INKATERRA LA CASONA

The British fashion and lifestyle magazine showcases Inkaterra La Casona in its latest edition. “The huge wooden door at La Casona is always locked. No doorbell, either, so the only way in is by knocking, which is probably the same way that former resident Simón Bolívar got in,” says Tatler in praise of the historical richness preserved within the walls of this 16th Century mansion.

“There are just 11 rooms, spread over two floors around a courtyard – bagsy one of the suites overlooking the pretty Plaza de las Nazarenas. Then book some downtime at the spa before a very Peruvian supper of quinoa soup and crispy guinea-pig confit.”
