NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2017

Five-star boutique hotel Inkaterra La Casona was chosen among the Top 100 Hideaways in the World by the luxury hotels and resorts newsletter Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report. All properties acknowledged with this distinguished accolade have fewer than fifty rooms, exhibiting “an exceptional character, a commitment to classic hospitality and a profound sense of place.”

The first Relais & Châteaux in Peru, Inkaterra La Casona is a 16th century manor house described by Andrew Harper as a “Delightful hideaway within one of Cusco’s most important early colonial buildings near the Plaza de Armas.” Its eleven suites surrounding the cloistered courtyard “include high timbered ceilings, working stone fireplaces and gorgeous folk tapestry.” Additionally, the staff is defined as “charming and helpful.”

Andrew Harper’s mention comes a few days after the recent Condé Nast Traveler’s 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards, where Inkaterra La Casona was named the 14th best hotel in the world, while achieving 2nd place in the ‘Top Hotels in South America’ category–the best hotel in Peru according to the readers’ poll.

INKATERRA AND CENTRAL RESTAURANT CELEBRATE GASTRONOMY WORKSHOP IN MADRE DE DIOS

Following the success of the first-ever Momento Mater, a multidisciplinary event on Peruvian culture and cuisine organized last February at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, a new gastronomy workshop was celebrated from October 13-15 at the Inkaterra lodges in the Amazon rainforest of Madre de Dios.

Among guests were chef Andoni Luis Aduriz, from Michelin two-starred restaurant Mugaritz (Guipúzcoa, Spain); neurosurgeon Atom Sarkar; environmental economist Gonzalo Urbina. Conceived by renowned chef Virgilio Martínez (Central Restaurante), the workshop explored ecosystems and the sustainable use of natural resources in this megadiversity hotspot, as well as the ancestral bond between the Ese’Eja culture and native foods and medicinal herbs. The event also laid the groundwork for the second edition of Momento, to be celebrated next year in Madre de Dios.

WATCH NEW FEATURETTE ON
THE CABO BLANCO TROPICAL SEA

Produced by photographer Alejandro Balaguer (Albatros Media), a spot to raise awareness on the conservation of the Peruvian Tropical Sea features extraordinary footage of the Regatta of the Century, where 30 artisanal fishing boats sailed the Cabo Blanco and El Ñuro waters. The short documentary stands for the declaration of Peru’s first marine reserve in Cabo Blanco, proposed since 2012 by NGO Inkaterra Asociación. “It is a zone with exceptional biodiversity,” asserts Hector Soldi, Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Peru. “The political decision of protecting such a place seems to me extremely reasonable.”
