Celebrating Machu Picchu as the first sustainable Wonder of the World, Inkaterra premieres a short feature directed by Danish filmmaker Morten Andersen. An immersive experience into a megadiverse environment at the foot of one of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this new film renders the exquisiteness of wildlife found within the grounds of Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.
An intimate village established at the heart of the Andean cloud forest, amid terraced hills, waterfalls and stone pathways, Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel hosts the world’s largest native orchid collection with 372 registered species. One of the most beautiful orchids of Machu Picchu is the Waqanki (Masdevallia veitchiana), whose epic legend on its origins – a romance against all odds between an Incan princess and her beloved warrior – is narrated in the film.
The new Inkaterra video comes soon after finding the Arachnitis uniflora species in the Machu Picchu Sanctuary. Coauthored by Inkaterra Asociación orchid specialist Benjamín Collantes, it is the first report of the Corsiaceae family for the Peruvian flora.

NAT GEO’S FIRST BIOBLITZ IN MADRE DE DIOS
On October 18, scientists, naturalists and schoolchildren gathered at Inkaterra Guides Field Station to survey as many living species as they could throughout 24 hours. Using the iNaturalist app to collect photos and share biological information, the NatGeo BioBlitz brought together the Amazonian community of Madre de Dios through citizen science.
574 observations and 213 species were spotted in only one day. Led by Inkaterra fellow researcher Dr. Varun Swamy, the BioBlitz raised awareness on flora and fauna conservation in one of the world’s most biodiversity-rich environments. Click the following link to check out our guests’ findings.

INKATERRA’S RESIDENT BIOLOGIST
CARMEN SOTO PROFILED AT “EL COMERCIO”
El Comercio newspaper printed an enchanting profile on the work of Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel’s resident biologist Dr. Carmen Soto, whose efforts play a key influence towards the conservation of birds, orchids and Andean bears native to the Machu Picchu cloud forest. “In only twenty minutes, the biologist shared twenty years of experience,” Jaime Bedoya recalls. “She did not want to mention it, but among over 370 orchid species treasured within the reserve, there was one named after her – the Brachionidium carmeniae luer. An orchid that grows over 3000 meters and produces a flower with a diameter of just 1.5cm. A small, unique flower as Ms. Carmen.”
