Your continuous support allows Inkaterra to appear as the best hotel brand in South America, among the 25 best brands worldwide in the Travel + Leisure 2020 World’s Best Awards.
The accolade names the Peruvian hotel collection in the 12th position worldwide. Additionally, Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba (Sacred Valley of the Incas) figures among winners at the ‘Top 10 Resorts in South America’ category.
“We are deeply thankful and humbled by Travel + Leisure’s most recent award,” says Inkaterra founder José Koechlin. “It is a celebration of our 45-year history. Since pioneering ecotourism in Peru, we have research, conservation and sustainability at the very core of our business.”
The recognition comes few months after Inkaterra was honored with the prestigious Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award, which honors companies, individuals, destinations, and organizations taking strides to develop the most sustainable and responsible travel products, practices, and experiences. Inkaterra was also named world’s 3rd best hotel brand in last year’s edition of Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards.
The results for the 2020 World’s Best Awards will be published in the August 2020 issue of Travel + Leisure magazine (American Express Group), one of the most influential and trustworthy sources for travel decisions.

CONDÉ NAST TRAVELER:
JOSÉ KOECHLIN NAMES HIS TOP PLACE
FOR A STAYCATION
“Occasionally, the best kind of trip happens in the unlikeliest of places: at home”, the editors of Condé Nast Traveler assure. In a recent article, the renowned lifestyle magazine summoned 16 travel industry insiders to name their top picks for a staycation – a nearby spot to get inspired while reading a book, spending a whole day at the spa, or visiting a local historical site.
Celebrating 45 years since pioneering sustainable tourism in Peru, Inkaterra founder José Koechlin picked the Andean cloud forest, where Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel (National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World) is found. “I base myself in Machu Picchu Pueblo to explore Incan remains and to learn about the area’s incredible biodiversity while enjoying solitude, which is a very scarce commodity,” José vouches for.

INKATERRA FILM FESTIVAL CLOSES WITH
TWO SHORT FEATURES FROM
WERNER HERZOG’S AMAZON WORKSHOP
Join us at the Inkaterra Film Festival as it comes to a close on Saturday 11, with two short films from Werner Herzog’s workshop at the Inkaterra Field Station in Madre de Dios: Lucía Valdemoros and Agustín Barrutia’s charming Qué habita en la selva, and Sebastián López Borda’s surreal take on Amazonian nature, Tunche Fever.
From the spark to the editing room, Werner Herzog guided 48 young filmmakers from 28 countries throughout their mission: to produce, in only 11 days and within the conceptual framework of “Fever Dreams in the Jungle”, a short film in the Amazon rainforest.
One of the boldest filmmakers in cinema history, Herzog grasped the essence of the Peruvian landscape through audacious vision, with the cult films Aguirre: the Wrath of God (1972) and Fitzcarraldo (1982) – both co-produced by Inkaterra founder José Koechlin.
