This fall, visitors to the Boca Raton Museum of Art can embark on a journey through time to discover a culture that thrived in a mystical world, with the world premiere exhibition of “Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru.”

Opening Saturday, October 16, “Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru” will by the largest exhibition to showcase Peru’s cultural legacy and extraordinary biodiversity. The groundbreaking event is produced by Inkaterra Asociación in alliance with the curators of the record-breaking “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of Pharaohs.” This sweeping exhibition spans 3,000 years across the ancient cultures of Peru, rivaled only by Ancient Egypt in longevity, and by the Roman Empire in engineering.

This all-new, immersive museum experience will transport visitors from the cradle of civilization in the Southern Hemisphere to the jewel of the Inca Empire: the city of Machu Picchu. The exhibition boasts a stunning selection of 192 artifacts from the Larco Museum, including spectacular gold treasures that once belonged to noble Andean lords – one of the most impressive collections of gold treasures to ever tour the world.

Visitors will also enjoy the first-ever virtual reality (VR) tour of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, designed with cutting-edge immersive technologies.

“Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru’ is the most innovative way for welcoming travelers from all around the world to explore our many wonders”, says José Koechlin, head of Inkaterra Asociación and environmental partner to the exhibition.

WORLD TOURISM ORGANIZATION HAILS MACHU PICCHU,
FIRST CARBON- NEUTRAL WONDER OF THE WORLD

The United Nations World Tourism Organization celebrates Inkaterra’s initiative to make Machu Picchu the first carbon- neutral Wonder of the World.

Inkaterra’s recent project is included among the World Tourism Organizations’s OnePlanet Sustainable Tourism Programme, which champions tourism policies and practices to address the challenges of pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change. It supports the transition towards a circular economy as a pathway for the sustainable development of tourism.

Through a strategic alliance that brings together several key players to ensure a carbon-free future for Machu Picchu, Inkaterra joins efforts with the Municipality of Machu Picchu, AJE Group, and the National Service of Protected Natural Areas (SERNANP). A successful story about the goals achieved when the public and private sectors work together, this initiative makes Machu Picchu the first destination in Latin America to achieve a circular economy through an innovative strategy for sustainable waste management.

For Machu Picchu’s carbon-neutral certification, a collaboration with GreenInitiative was established. Machu Picchu is expected to meet the requirements necessary to achieve carbon- neutral status by September 2021. This commitment aims to reduce carbon emissions by 45% in 2030, and achieve zero net emissions (carbon neutrality) by 2050, in accordance with the Paris Agreement guidelines.
